Lidar Scanning for Visual Effects
Our Process
Point Capture is a small business located in Los Angeles, California specializing in laser scanning and 3D modeling.
We create point clouds and 360 panoramic images for use in the VFX production process.
We use a Navvis VLX mobile lidar scanner which is worn on the shoulders and the operator walks the site while scanning (much like a google car).
The speed with which the scan can be completed, and the accuracy of the point cloud make this technology ideal for capturing a stage or location.
Deliverables
Within 24 hours of scanning the colorized point cloud and 360 degree panoramic images are available for download.
Point Capture can also develop a 3D model of the site by applying a mesh to the point cloud. This is typically delivered in .obj or .fbx format.
Location Scouting
We will enhance the information you capture at a location with high quality panoramic images and a point cloud.
This gives you details down to 1/4” that can be shared with your Client and used for logistics coordination and planning.
The images and point cloud are accessible via web browser, no specialized software required to view, take measurements and add comments directly to the images. Use the platform as a space for collaboration and planning.
